Student records at the University of Connecticut, including those maintained by UConn Academic Achievement Center student staff, Connects staff and mentors, are principally governed by the Federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974, as amended. FERPA protects the privacy of educational records, establishes the students' rights to inspect their educational records, provides guidelines for correcting inaccurate or misleading data through informal hearings, and permits students to file complaints with FERPA concerning alleged failures of the institution to comply with this Act. As a condition of recieving access to student records, including but not limited to the AAC Nexus network, UConn Connects Notes Database and participant transcripts, all AAC student staff and UConn Connects Mentors agree to: 1) Access and store information in a secure manner 2) Make every effort to ensure student privacy 3) Access student information only as required by your assigned duties 4) Notify UConn Connects staff of loss of physical student records, compromised digital security, unusual or illegitimate requests for information, or any other breach of student confidentiality 5) Never discuss information in a way that might personally identify a student 6) Never release private information 7) Never alter a student record without appropriate authorization.
